Requirements for Black Belt Runs in Tang Soo Do

Black Belt Runs Participation for Cho Dan Bo and Black Belt Students
As a student progresses to Cho Dan Bo grade in Tang Soo Do, participation in the monthly Black Belt Runs becomes mandatory. This applies to all Dan levels, as these runs are a key aspect of the black belt journey.
Participation is crucial for:
  • Testing eligibility for 1st Dan Black Belt.
  • Higher Dan Black Belt testing qualifications.

The Black Belt Runs are more than a fitness exercise; they represent:
  • Fostering the black belt community spirit.
  • Promoting health and well-being.
  • Setting an example of discipline for Gup belts advancing through the ranks.

Key Requirements for Participation
1. Run Completion for Testing Eligibility
  • Cho Dan Bo and Black Belt students must complete at least 4 out of 6 runs in a designated six-month period to qualify for testing.
  • Attendance is tracked, and completion is mandatory for eligibility.

2. Meeting Point and Time
  • Runs begin at the Mtarfa DoJang.
  • Arrive no later than 7:50 AM as the run starts promptly at 8:00 AM.

3. Essential Gear and Safety Protocols
  • Wear running trainers for proper support and comfort.
  • Use a Hi-Vis vest to ensure visibility during the run.
  • Carry a water bottle or hydration pack to stay hydrated.
  • Music devices are not allowed to maintain focus and awareness.
  • Stay vigilant about traffic and vehicles; maintain a high level of awareness throughout the run.

4. Behavior and Focus During the Run
  • Maintain silence as a group to foster focus and discipline.
  • Follow instructions from leaders or instructors at all times.
  • Adopt a mindset of resilience, unity, and community, the core purpose of the Black Belt Runs.

Preparation Recommendations

Early Fitness Preparation
  • Begin fitness training from the white belt level.
  • By red belt, incorporate regular runs into your routine to prepare for Cho Dan Bo requirements.

Importance of Physical Training
  • Running and other fitness activities are integral to improving your quality of life, a hallmark of the black belt journey.
  • A strong fitness level allows you to lead and inspire Gup belts striving to follow in your footsteps.

The Black Belt Runs are a symbol of discipline, community, and the relentless pursuit of excellence in Tang Soo Do. Prepare well, participate fully, and embody the black belt spirit with pride.
